As a cyclist I have found that I use the footpaths most of the time as the roads are just too dangerous. So many erratic and aggressive drivers and I'm not risking my life on luck, hoping that I will not be one of the many cyclists run over each year by these nasty drivers. I also get mad when I see other cyclists, usually younger people who also ride on the footpath at high speeds as I aways ride very slowly and carefully when I know their are pedestrians around. I also ride carefully where there are obstructed views of drive ways and home entrances as often people just pop out into the footpath. So yes there are cyclists like myself who ride carefully and in full respect of pedestrians but unfortunately there is many riders who are inconsiderate, careless, selfish and dangerous. The only real solution is for councils to provide cycle ways in every suburban area which would have many benefits for the traffic congestion and the environment plus more people will be a lot healthier.

Re: Cyclists Need a Fair Go
I actually ride quite often to the shops etc but I always use the footpaths carefully as I just don't trust any car drivers on our roads where the speed limit is not low enough.
